changing seasons & skincare

Here’s the deal, when the seasons change, we normally change up our wardrobes right? Well the same goes for your skincare. Today we’re chatting all about how your skincare should change with the seasons.

With the change of a season comes changes in humidity, temperature, daylight and more. All of those factors play a role in our skin believe it or not. For example, humidity in the summer means more water in the air, that moisture hydrates your skin, so that’s why in the summer months your skin will never usually feel as dry. That’s also why in the winter months when there isn’t as much moisture in the air, your skin is going to feel much drier. Of course, it all depends on where you live, but generally that’s what happens.

❄️Winter Months❄️

Colder weather, less humidity and less moisture in the air. So, because of that lack of moisture, you need to be adding that back in! You’re going to want to add it back in via water and gel form. Hyaluronic acid is 👌. The Trio Rebalancing Moisture is just that! UltraHydro Gel from Glymed Plus is great as well, but my personal favorite is Hydrabalance from Face Reality. It’s the smoothest gel I’ve ever used and it’s also great at killing bacteria and soothing the skin.

Next, you’ll want to add something thicker like an oil into your routine, especially if your skin is normally pretty dry. Some people can get away with just a hydrator, but others need a thicker moisturizer or an oil added in. This can also be a personal preference of what you like and what you think feels better on your skin. I love the Herbal Pigment Oil by DMK* for an oil on my skin mixed with the Aminodine Spray from DMK* as well. You could also use Cran-Peptide from Face Reality as well, which is a great affordable option and also great for teenagers. Another great option is the Vitamin C Cream from Glymed, a lot of people love this one for a one-stop-shop for anti-aging, brightening and soothing dry skin. Last but not least, if you haven’t at least TRIED the Trio Rebalancing Moisturizer from Skinbetter than what are you doing?! It truly takes all the guesswork out of your skincare routine.

Masking is something that’s highly underrated in the winter. I would highly recommend using the Ultra Hydrating Enzyme Mask from Glymed once or twice a week in the winter! It’s soothing and gently exfoliates to brighten your skin, not to mention it will make it feel so soft! Another one of my faves for the winter is the Hydrating Mask from Face Reality, this one is great for inflammation and soothing your skin post-treatments! You can also leave it on as a deep hydrating moistuizer if you feel you need it. Next, the CBD Hydrotheraphy Mask from Glymed is also a great option! It’s great for acne, anti-aging, soothing, hydrating, really every skin concern. And lastly, the Chocolate Power Rescue Mask from Glymed, first of all just the smell alone is amazing, but it’s a huge antioxidant drink for your skin!

Let’s not forget about hydrating sprays! If you’re not using a toner or hydrating spray, consider this your sign to get one. Y’all know my favorite is the CBD B3 Facial Mist from Glymed. It’s a great antioxidant cocktail that supercharges your skin. It helps with hydration, calming, skin soothing and redness. Use this spray before your serum, moisturizer and sunscreen. But you can also apply it throughout the day as needed.

☀️Summer Months☀️

Raise your hand if your skin always feels greasier/more oily in the summer 🙋🏻‍♀️ So many people hate that extra shine that happens on the tip of their nose, chin or forehead. Spoiler alert - it’s not necessarily a bad thing as it provides extra hydration and nourishment for your skin. It’s just another layer of protection that keeps your skin happy and while it can cause a few extra breakouts or blackheads, you just need to learn how to keep it in check.

My personal favorite is the Alpharet Clearing Serum from Skinbetter every single night. In the summer months, I find it helps with my blackhead production (aka oil), so my pores don’t get clogged. Another favorite exfoliator is the Mandelic Serum by Face Reality*. It’s truly a game-changer for so many clients with acne, pigmentation, and who want to focus on anti-aging.

Another thing I’ll do in the summer months is use a scrub once or twice a week. I like the Antioxidant Scrub or the Mandelic Scrub*, both by Face Reality. Another personal fave is the Detox Scrub Mask by Skinbetter and I mix it with the Oxygen Infusion Wash by Skinbetter. It’s great for desincrustation, which eats at the dead skin cells and oil build-up on your skin to keep your skin soft and prevent clogged pores. You’re usually sweating more in the summer which can cause more build-up on your pores, which is why I love that wash. Another great option for a mask is the Oxygen Deep Pore Cleanser by Glymed. It acts very similar to the Oxygen Infusion Wash, but I use it as a mask because I get a deeper exfoliation, which is great for my peeps with oily skin.

You’re going to want to use products that help equal the oil to water ratio in your skin, especially in the summer months. Some of my favorite products for this are the CBD B3 Facial Mist by Glymed and Hydrabalance from Face Reality. These keep your skin happy, healthy and calm at all times! But remember, in the summer it’s normal to produce more oil.

Using lightweight moisturizers in the summer is a beautiful thing in the summer. Clearderma Moisturizer by Face Reality is a lightweight option for a lot of my clients, especially during the summer months. The CBD Micro Silver by Glymed is also a great option! This provides a great form of anti-aging, and helps with acne, um, yes please! The Trio Rebalancing Moisturizer by Skinbetter is also great any time of the year because it matches exactly what your skin needs!

Next up, let’s chat about oil-absorbing products. This is great for summer months. A clay mask like the Soothing Clay Mask from Face Reality is a great option for absorbing more oil. The ACU Mask by DMK* is a great one for absorbing oil and killing bacteria, and finally the Actroll Powder by DMK* is a great product to have on hand for oil absorption. You can use the Actroll Powder as a setting powder over your makeup or just over your tinted sunscreen to help keep the shine at bay. Fun fact: you can also use it as a spot treatment for acne!

Okay, you guys should obviously know what my last one is going to be…..SUNSCREEN. And yes, before we go any further, you do need to be wearing sunscreen during the winter months. But seriously, it’s a no-brainer that you should be wearing sunscreen when you’re outside during the summer. Sunburnt skin is not happy skin. But if you do get sunburned, you’re going to want to give it more nutrients to help heal it. My top 2 sunscreens are Tizo 3 Tinted Sunscreen and sunbetter Tone Smart from Skinbetter!

It can take some time, but it’s important to listen to your skin and give it what it wants and needs. This is especially true during the changing of seasons. My goal is to always make sure your skin is happy, no matter the season!
