How to Cure Dry Skin

Winter can be rough on the skin in so many different ways and for so many different reasons. Winter air is so brittle and harsh for our skin, so I’m here to give you a few pointers on how to help manage and prevent bad skin days!

For starters, you need a gentle cleanser, preferably something that won't over strip your face. My favorite is the Cleansing Gel from skinbetter or the Ultra Gentle from Face Reality! This step is very important for keeping the skin calm. If you over strip your skin the PH gets thrown off, this is bad because your skin will go too alkaline or acidic, which is over stripping you. Over-stripping your skin leads to problems that could have been avoided. Essentially, stripped skin is an open wound that you'll have to work harder to fix and repair. So just do yourself a favor and ditch the scrubs! Stop scrubbing so hard, it’s so so harmful. Hey, and while you’re at it, don’t use too many harsh acids in your skincare either!

Next up, a thicker moisturizer! I always say when the seasons change you need to change one thing up in your routine. In the summer it makes sense to have a lightweight hydrator or moisturizer. Then, when your skin needs more protection for the harsh winter months a thicker moisturizer is best! The extra ceramides soothe and cool the skin, which is exactly what it needs! Your skin wants oil! It produces oil so it needs to be replenished with it. Healthy fats like lipids/ceramides/ squalene/glycerin are some examples of things your skin should always have! So, the Trio Rebalancing Moisturizer is my absolute favorite! It has 5 different blends of oils in it to keep you protected in all aspects but in a lightweight form.

You can also add extra hydration by using a hydrating toner or spray! A gel hydrator as well like a hyaluronic acid serum! This will hold more water weight and retention in your skin. So that will instantly plump you. It's like botox in a bottle too! Your skin wants water, it’s what makes it plump and beautiful! So give it some external water with a serum or spray!

While we’re on the topic of hydration, drinking your water is also super important! You should be drinking half your bodyweight in ounces a day or more! Plus omegas are so good for you too. I retail an omega supplement that provides wonderful internal hydration and inflammation support. It internally helps you for that extra hydration factor. Omega 3s are the best kind for the skin. Eating them through your food is also another great way to stay hydrated. Like avocados and fish!

Mask more! Use a hydrating mask weekly. My favorites are Hydracalm from Face Reality. This is a great option to use as a thicker moisturizer if you feel you need it, or you can even sleep in it! The Hydrating Enzyme from Glymed is amazing because it will gently exfoliate the dead skin off while hydrating you. If you don't get the buildup of dead skin off then the moisturizers and hydrators can't penetrate into the skin properly to be absorbed. So it's a great option to do both! And lastly, the CBD Hydratherapy mask* from Glymed is another calming and anti aging mask for dry/irritated/acne/red/sensitive skin.

There’s no such thing as too much product. Seriously thought, make sure you’re using enough! I get it we all want to save and not waste any product but make sure you're using the proper amounts to get the results desired. I always do one pump of things or a pea size or more for my face and neck. Sometimes I'll add a little more. I always apply to damp skin as well and never let the product dry between steps.

Cover your face and skin from the cold elements. When they are directly exposed to the outside environment it's not good! Your skin is then more susceptible to irritation and wind chapped skin. And one last thing I'll talk about is hot showers! Stop taking such long hot showers. This one is a tough one! I don't even think I could give this up quite yet so i'm guilty as charged but just an FYI!

Try some of these out this winter and see if it helps you out at all! Remember when the seasons change something needs to change in your skincare!
