Smooth + Confident: The Ultimate Guide to Waxing
Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, this blog is going to have literally everything you need to know about waxing in it. From making your appointment to aftercare + leading up to your next appointment, let’s chat all things waxing.
POV: you just made for waxing appointment. You could be a first-timer or a pro, here’s what you need to know..
It’s okay to be nervous! But here’s the thing…I literally wax coochies for a living so chances are I’ve seen it all.
Great, now that’s out of the way let’s answer some FAQ’s.
How long do I need to let my hair grow for an appointment?
Well, if it’s your first time, that doesn’t really matter, BUT if you’re in between Brazilians, typically 3-4 weeks is good. If you’re waxing anywhere else on your body, like legs or underarms, usually 2 weeks or for your leg hair to be the length of a grain of rice.
Do I need to do anything special down there?
Nope!
Is there anything I should do to prepare?
While there’s nothing special you need to do, there are a few things you can prep for.
No lotions or oils on the area getting waxed
If you’re nervous about the pain, feel free to take a Benadryl (or an anti-histamine)
No alcohol! It thins your blood, and can actually cause more pain to the site getting waxed
If it’s that time of the month, lightly exfoliate a few days prior so the hairs come out easier
HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE!
What should I wear to my appointment?
Loose fitting or cotton clothing. And I always recommend to let the coochie BREATHE after a wax.
Next, let’s chat about aftercare.
Expect some sensitivity, redness, and even bleeding. Side note: bleeding is actually a good sign! It means we got all the hair out.
You’ll definitely want to leave your waxing appointment with some sort of exfoliation and hydrator. You can check out all my waxing aftercare products here. Also high on the aftercare list? This bath mitt. Seriously, it will replace your loofah and is mold, mildew and bacteria free! Speaking of loofahs, definitely avoid using one to clean the waxed area because the are a breeding ground for bacteria. Last thing I recommend - a PH-balanced wash, especially for the Brazilian ladies.
So, in the first 24-48 hours, DO NOT:
Sweat or workout
Have sexual intercourse
Swim in pools, lakes, oceans or hot tubs
Wear tight fitting clothing or underwear
Use any products on the waxed area unless recommended by your esti besti
So, when does regrowth start? Well, just about 2 weeks is when you’ll notice some regrowth happening. During this time, you’ll probably feel a little itchy, and that’s when you know it’s time to exfoliate. There shouldn’t be any more pain, and remember, if redness lasts any longer than a few hours, please contact your provider! After your first wax, you’ll start to notice a decrease in hair growth, which is totally normal! The whole point of waxing is to thin out your hairs and slow growth.
When do I need to come back? I suggest every 4-6 weeks is a good routine to be on. You want your hairs to grow back fully before you wax again, this way we can work towards getting your hair on a cycle.
Whew, okay so that was a LOT of info. What other questions do you have about waxing? Let me know in the comments!
